Identify:

It is important for Officers to IDENTIFY the people they are dealing with on patrol (suspects, witnesses, victims and/or reporting people). Officers will receive a “Personal ID Card” which was developed to help Officers get the necessary full name, address, phone number and date of birth. We explain the different answers they will receive for each question and how to document those answers.

“Many of the Latinos I have dealt with on patrol speak a little English if not more. The way a Latino answers my questions help me identify how well they speak English. I give trainees some of those helpful hints because their job is easier the more English is involved”, said Officer Sullivan.

We teach the Officers to recognize what kind of identification cards Latinos are using with Law Enforcement. Some of the ID cards Latinos are using are fake documents. We give them ways to IDENTIFY fake versus real documents.

Officers receive the “Personal ID Card” that they can keep in their uniform pocket. They will also receive the “Identify Form” which assists Officers in getting the necessary information in written form directly from the contact. It has the questions formatted in a bilingual form that they can keep in their squad bag.
